This fishing fly imitates the Hawthorne fly which hatches from the countryside that surrounds our rivers and streams toward the end of the April. Often the Hawthorne hatch can stir up a huge rise of fish and it is essential to have trout flies in your box that are good imitations. This has a slightly wider gape than the barbed version.
The Hawthorne is very similar in appearance to the heather fly, and this fly pattern can be used very successfully to imitate both. An essential trout fly for all fly anglers.
