Peaks Fly Fishing began life not as a shop, but as a fly fishing school based in the Derbyshire Peak District.
For many years, our sole focus was teaching people how to fly fish well. Through thousands of hours spent on rivers and stillwaters across the UK, our coaches built a deep, practical understanding of watercraft, aquatic insects, fly selection, and presentation.
That time on the water shaped everything that followed.
As our coaching work grew, anglers began asking us a simple question: “Where can we buy the same flies and tackle you use?”
The answer became our fly fishing tackle shop in Sheffield.
Today, Peaks Fly Fishing is a specialist fly fishing shop and professional guiding operation, run as a family business by husband and wife team David and Vanessa Johnson. We stock and recommend the same flies, tackle, and equipment our coaches rely on when fishing themselves.
Flies and Tackle Chosen Through Experience
We are not a generalist tackle retailer, we are a specialist fly fishing shop.
Every product we stock has been selected because it performs on the water, not because it looks good on a shelf. Our background in coaching and guiding means we see how tackle behaves in real conditions, across seasons, rivers, and skill levels.
Alongside our own range of premium flies, we are authorised main dealers for leading fly fishing brands including Sage, Rio, Fishpond, Vision, and Loon, among others. We work closely with these manufacturers because their equipment consistently meets the standards we expect when fishing and teaching.
If we don’t believe in something, we don’t stock it.
Our Flies
When setting up the shop, we made a deliberate decision not to adopt a “pile it high and sell it cheap” approach. Find out more about our flies here.
It’s impossible to produce a genuinely high-quality fly at a bargain price without compromise. Instead, we focus on building the best fly we can first, using carefully chosen materials and finishing them on premium hooks from Ahrex, Hayabusa, Kamasan, Partridge, and Gamakatsu.

Our website and shop are designed from an angler’s perspective.
Rather than endless product lists, we make it easy to search by insect type, fly category, or fishing situation – the same way decisions are made on the river.
