November – Stillwater Fly Selection
November stillwater fishing in the UK is typically defined by cooling water temperatures, reduced surface activity, and fish feeding more consistently below the surface.
At this time of year, midges and buzzers come into their own and are often the most dependable food source available. Trout will frequently feed at depth or just below the surface, making accurate depth control and subtle presentation particularly important. Buzzer patterns fished slowly and thoughtfully can be highly effective throughout the month.
Fry are also well established by November, and larger trout may actively target them, especially in shallower water and along margins. When this behaviour is evident, fish can feed decisively for short periods, making fry imitations a valuable option when smaller patterns are being ignored.
Surface activity is generally limited in November, and dry fly opportunities should be treated as occasional rather than expected. Most success comes from focusing on subsurface patterns and adapting presentation to changing conditions and fish behaviour.
The flies in this collection have been selected specifically for UK stillwater fishing in November, concentrating on proven buzzer patterns and fry imitations that continue to produce fish as the season moves toward winter.
