Probably one of the most important and popular fishing flies of all time. The pheasant tail nymph barbless or PTN as we call it was invented by river keeper frank sawyer on the upper avon. This is a variation on the classic sawyers pheasant tail.
This trout fly is a deadly general imitation of a nymph and is often all you need to catch trout and grayling when they are on the nymph.
It is especially good at imitating the large dark olive which is one of the most widely hatching up wing flies. The pheasant tail nymph fly pattern is also equally at home on a still water.
