About Pro-Debarbed Flies

We are delighted to be able to offer professionally de-barbed flies on selected patterns, alongside our barbless and barbed ranged. Barbless flies are fantastic and increasingly popular and alongside this, there has been a growing movement amongst groups of pro-guides and anglers to use professionally de-barbed hooks as well.

The hooks are de-barbed by the fly tier whilst still supported in the vice. Some anglers feel de-barbed flies offer all the benefits of barbless but have a slightly better hook hold, especially when slack line is encountered when playing a fish - such as when a fish leaps. This is because a professionally de-barbed fly leaves a small smooth hump on the hook where the barbed has been smoothed down, and some anglers feel this doesn't tend to pop out at easily under slack line conditions, yet the fly still comes out during unhooking as easily as a barbless fly.
