The Black Spider Barbless is a sparse North Country-style wet fly for trout and grayling. Its dark body and soft hackle suggest a small nymph, drowned terrestrial or emerging insect without copying one natural too precisely.
Fish it upstream through riffles and pocket water, across-and-down on a controlled swing, or within a team of spiders. The hackle should pulse and fold naturally in the current, so avoid dragging the fly faster than the water. The black silhouette is especially useful in broken water and low light.
