After making a mash up of putting the backing on and then spending about 45mins getting it back off using tweezers and a crewel needle I started again the next day in a better frame of mind. I decided to wrap some lead strip around the arbor to counter balance my 11 foot Vision Nyph Maniac before putting on the backing and the fly line.
Trying it out on the River Don with a double rod length of Sempe 0.18mm leader/sighter I hooked number small browns but only landed 4, this was no fault of the reel they were just too lively and a distance release was inevitable.
The reason I bought this reel was to eliminate the fine leader coming out of the side of my Abel partial cage reel and it did this without fail so everything is good for future trips.
