The Duck Fly Hackled is a highly effective, dark wet fly for early-season midge activity, particularly the large dark chironomids traditionally called duck flies. Its hackled profile can suggest an emerging adult or drowned insect near the surface.
Fish it in a light ripple on a floating line, either singly or in a team. Use a slow figure-of-eight or allow the wind to move it naturally during spring midge hatches. Be ready for a firm pull as the fly works through the taking water.
