The Claret Halfhog is an excellent, compact, low-riding stillwater surface pattern with a claret body. It combines the buoyancy of a Sedgehog-style fly with a smaller footprint for trout feeding in the surface film.
Fish it static in a ripple, along wind lanes or on the top dropper. The claret tone is useful during midge and terrestrial activity when brighter patterns draw refusals. The sort of effective fly that can quickly earn a permanent place in the box.
