The river Itchen is a famous English chalk stream. The river flows for around 28 miles from Mid Hampshire through to Southampton. Along with the River Test the Itchen holds an international reputation as a fly fishery and anglers travel from around the world to fish it clear, rich waters.
As a chalk stream habitat it has a wealth of aquatic life. Flies for the River Itchen will mainly consist of Olives, Caddis & Terrestrials. Many anglers who fish the Itchen will have a preference to dry fly fishing and on some beats there is a dry fly only rule, there are also plenty of opportunities to fish with wets and nymphs on other beats of the river.
