Daves Deadly Mayfly

The mayfly is probably the most famous of all the flies found by the water. It holds iconic status amongst fly fishers and it's emergence is a big event in the fly fishing calendar.

Mayflies start life as a nymph which lives in the mud in the river or lake bed, it emerges as a fly (the dun) and then later in the day will transform into another fly (the spinner) which will then mate and lay eggs. After laying her eggs, the female spinner will die, often floating down the river in the evening (spent spinner) this can be a great time to catch the rising fish.
